Child Passenger Safety Technician CertificationKingston Township Police Officers Jonathan Chipego and Robert Spencer recently attended and successfully completed the Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) Certification course. The course, held at the Pennsylvania State Police Hazelton Barracks, took four (4) days to complete. The class comprised of classroom instruction, hand-on work with car seats and vehicles and a community safety seat check. The National Child Passenger Safety Training Program, which is partners with The National Child Passenger Safety Board, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Safe Kids Worldwide, provided the training to the officers.
As CPST's, the officers will put their knowledge to work through a variety of activities, including child safety seat checks where parents and caregivers receive education and hands-on assistance with the proper use of child restraint systems and safety belts.
If you are a resident of Kingston Township and need assistance with a child restraint, call the Kingston Township Police Department at 696-1175 and schedule an appointment. Also, look for scheduled child safety seat checks in the near future.

Home heating equipment rebate program opens April 21 Home heating equipment rebate program opens April 21
A new state rebate program designed to help consumers save money and energy will open April 21.
The Pennsylvania Home Heating Equipment Rebate Program could help as many as 33,000 households to purchase Energy Star-rated, non-electric residential hot water heaters, furnaces and boilers. The $11 million program is being funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Consumers can apply for and receive their rebates by following three simple steps:
1. Reserve a rebate by completing an online application (available at www.paheatingrebates.com on April 21). Residents without Internet access can call 877-592-2061 to make a reservation;
2. Purchase and have a contractor install a qualifying product. Purchases made before April 21 will not be eligible; and
3. Submit the completed rebate application within 30 days of the reservation date.
The best way to guarantee a rebate is to obtain a reservation when you are in the process of deciding to make a purchase.
Rebates will range from $100 to $500, depending on the equipment’s efficiency rating. Complete information about the program, as well as a listing of eligibility requirements, are available on the program's new website at www.paheatingrebates.com. Consumers will also be able to check the website for real-time updates on reservation availability.
It can be extremely expensive to heat a home and water, particularly with older appliances. This program can help consumers upgrade their heating equipment so that they use less energy while saving money.
